This film is a drama focusing on events during and after the D-Day Normandy invasion during World War II. A group of American soldiers commanded by Captain John H. Miller, is dispatched to go behind enemy lines to find Private James Francis Ryan, and return him home. They learn that James Francis Ryan has been assigned to defend a strategically important bridge; however, after locating him, as any soldier would do, Ryan refuses to leave the battle field and the two units join forces to defend a strategically important bridge.

The first 30 minutes of the movie are riveting and the action is almost overwhelming. It does a terrific job of giving you an idea of what that day looked like from a soldier’s perspective. Saving Private Ryan is widely considered to be one of the best war movies ever made. The film is compelling from the beginning flashbacks to its end. It’s a very significant 20th century film contribution and a must see for war movie enthusiasts.
